Medan

Medan

Ana and papa konyol

31 July - 3 August 2009

Medan is Mary's hometown. This is our family's first journey to Medan and few other towns in North Sumatra.

Cameras used: Kodak V1073 (16:9 and panoramas) and Kodak DX6490 (3:2). All originals, downsized only.

Our journey starts from the new terminal at Cengkareng Int. Airport. It's the Terminal 3. It has more futuristic design compared to the old two terminals. Well, actually I prefer the more Indonesian designs of the old ones...

I never saw a vending machine in
Indonesia before... 8-}

Enter the luxurious (i.e. cheap) Air Asia!

Ana wanted the batik painting kit.
We'll buy it on return flight.

Toba Lake.
We sure will go there!

Arrived at Polonia Int. Airport. Had a Mie Pangsit for lunch.

It's hard to find non-pork noodles here.
O well, 'guess we're simply weren't
trying... :)

This is the beautiful Maria Annai Velangkanni Church, built by an Indian Pastor.

It has a natural spring water.
Approved to be safe for drinking.

Crocodile farm!!!

Arrived at Kisaran, a 4 hours drive from Medan. Had durian for supper! ;-)

Morning at Kisaran. Ride a bentor (becak motor) to have yet another Mie Pangsit for breakfast at the market...

Opung Kisaran's House

Mie Pangsit ala Kisaran

a traditional appetizer,
made from some kind of sweet potato

Great-great-father's house at Pematang Siantar, about 1.5 hours drive from Kisaran.

Continue to Medan 2...
